THE PROMISE OF ZERO INTERNET TESTING:
You do not need a commercial fiber optic connection, VSAT, or daily telecom data bundles to run a 100-student computer-based examination. A standard ₦15,000 wireless router without any SIM card installed is sufficient to link candidate computers to an offline examination host.
Phase 1: Hardware Setup in the Computer Laboratory
Conducting offline examinations relies on creating an internal Local Area Network (LAN). Follow these basic physical steps:
- Designate One Master PC: Select a reliable desktop computer with 4 GB+ RAM running Windows 7, 8, 10, or 11 to serve as the Exam Host.
- Power On a Standard Router: Connect a standard Wi-Fi router or 16-port Ethernet switch to power. Do NOT insert any SIM card or modem.
- Connect the Host PC: Connect the Host PC to the router using an Ethernet cable (preferred for stability) or Wi-Fi.
- Connect Candidate PCs: Connect student desktops, laptops, or tablets to the same local router network via Wi-Fi or Ethernet.
Phase 2: Launching the Exam Session on the Host
Once your computers are interconnected locally, open the Elite CBT Exam Software on the Host PC:
- Select your Subject (e.g. SSS 2 English Language First Term Examination).
- Set duration (e.g. 45 minutes) and total questions.
- Click "Start Examination Session". The software displays your local LAN IP address (e.g.
http://192.168.1.100:8000).
Phase 3: Student Participation & Live Monitoring
On candidate computers, students simply open any browser (Google Chrome, Microsoft Edge, or Mozilla Firefox) and enter the local address. The examination interface opens immediately:
Because all questions reside inside the lab room, moving between questions is instantaneous. Answers are saved locally on the host in real time. If a candidate computer accidentally unplugs, their time and submitted choices remain safely preserved.
